UK Commercial Fishing Social Survey
The Countryside and Community Research Institute at the University of Gloucestershire are working with partners from Fishing into the Future to develop an annual nationwide social survey of commercial fisheries that aims to support fisheries management. The survey will collect data on Health & Wellbeing, Cultural identity, Community, Traditions and Values. This Defra-funded project, supported by the Seafarers’ Charity, aims to inform development of a national-scale survey of commercial fisheries. The vision is to design the survey in a co-produced way, whereby key industry stakeholders have an opportunity to say what they feel needs to be included.
The team want to hear directly from fishermen and people working in the catching sector on the priorities & issues to include in the survey and will be holding in-person workshops in Newlyn, Bridlington, Newhaven and Wells-next-the-Sea, as well as online sessions between March – May 2023. Fishing industry participants at the in-person workshops will be remunerated £150 for their time and expertise.
The next workshop is in Bridlington, 5th April at 3:30pm at the Bridlington Spa.
