Applications for beam trawling permits for the 2025 season are invited from vessels meeting the following criteria:
· Maximum of 150kw engine power
· Vessels which have held a trawl permit for three consecutive years prior to the 6th of June 2024
A beam trawling permit is not required if the following criteria are met:
· The owner of the vessel holds a valid trawl permit
· The vessel uses a single beam trawl with a maximum length of 2.5m
· All scallops are returned to the sea as soon as possible
Please note that a permit fee will be charged. The normal annual fee set out within the byelaw regulation is £200 per annum but given the timing of confirmation of the new regulation the fee will be reduced to £100 for 2025 only.
