North Eastern Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority is one of 10 authorities covering the English coast. Our primary statutory function is to manage the sustainable exploitation of sea fisheries resources. This is delivered through the monitoring of activities and enforcement of appropriate management measures including local and national regulations. We are currently seeking to recruit, on a permanent basis, to the position of Environmental and Scientific Officer/IFCO. This is both an exciting and rare opportunity to join our Environmental and Scientific Team. The work is extremely varied from ‘day to day’ and you will be involved in all aspects of Fisheries Management, from collating data to implementing management measures and enforcement. You will be working under the direction of the Environmental & Scientific Manager to support the delivery of the Authority’s statutory responsibilities. The role includes undertaking and supporting environmental surveys both onshore and offshore onboard both fishing vessels and a new ‘state of the art’ research vessel currently in build. 

Environmental and Scientific Officer/IFCO 

Based in Bridlington, East Yorkshire, routine duties include supporting the Authority’s marine research and survey programmes, collating and analysing data and producing reports. The role also involves supporting a wide variety of operational activity throughout the Authority’s district. You will have the drive, vision and ambition to complement this unique opportunity. Both Offshore work and occasional weekend work will be an essential part of this role. Local Government and North Eastern Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority terms of appointment and conditions of service apply.  

£32,076 - £35,745 for average 37 hours per week

We have a range of roles covering both land based and offshore operations including a dedicated environmental/scientific team. The skills and experience required to fulfil our posts are often transferrable from careers in the fishing industry, mechanics, engineering, and enforcement. An interest and working knowledge of fishing practices and boat handling experience can also be advantageous. We always strive to provide opportunities to individuals that feel they have the relevant skills and qualifications to work as part of our team.

We are actively seeking interest from individuals that have experience and expertise in offshore deck work and a working knowledge of fishing practices, marine diesels and ancillary equipment.
