A limited shellfish permit (otherwise known as a Hobby permit) will be issued to allow use of up to 10 pots or 100 meters of net to fish or take not more than 2 lobsters and a combined total of 10 crab and 30 whelks from the fishery, which must be landed on the same calendar day on which they were caught. A permit holder must be at least 14 years old.

A 'shellfish entitlement holder permit' will be issued, upon application to the Authority, only to the owner or owners of a fishing vessel which does not exceed 16.0 meters overall length and which at the time the application is made and throughout the duration of the permit, is registered as a fishing vessel in accordance with Part II of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995 and the regulations made thereunder (or any statutory modification or re-enactment thereof), or in the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, and who holds the current fishing licence with with a shellfish entitlement issued by the appropriate UK Fisheries Department at the time the application is made.

A trawl permit will be issued to allow a trawl net to be used to take fish and shellfish from the fishery. Conditions of permit - The overall length of the vessel from which trawling is carried out does not exceed 18.3 meters. The engine power of the vessel does not exceed 400KW (536 HP). The trawl net is raised and cleared at least once in every three hours during which trawling is carried out.
