Anglers National Line Recycling Scheme

On the 9th January 2020 North Eastern IFCA partnered with the Anglers National Line Recycling Scheme to make a way for recreational anglers to dispose of any discarded fishing line in a safe and environmentally friendly way.

Over a period of three years the recycling bins in Whitby have collected approximately 18 miles of fishing line in total. Furthermore, North Eastern IFCA Officers took the time to develop signage for Anglers to read on what species can be caught from Whitby piers, along with a metal measure that was secured down to help Anglers identify what fish they had caught and what the legal minimum landing size is.
Unfortunately, throughout the last three years, the recycling bins and signage have been vandalised on numerous occasions and we have repaired and replaced them accordingly. However on the last collection, NEIFCA Officers discovered that all of the signage and recycling bins had been vandalised and were in a complete state of disrepair.
Due to the deliberate damage incurred to the bins on multiple occasions, we have had to take the decision not to replace these recycling bins. North Eastern IFCA always try hard to work alongside partner agencies and promote initiatives that benefit both the environment and the local community.
If you still wish to recycle any fishing line this can be done at the following Angling shops:
Hook line & Sinker - Whitby
Keith Sports - Saltburn
