North Eastern IFCA Byelaw Proposals – Notice of Informal Consultation   

North Eastern Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority (NEIFCA) officers have been working to develop formal recommendations to support the more effective management of fishing effort. We consider that these provisions are necessary to appropriately manage and ensure the long-term sustainability of fisheries within our district. We have provided outline information in the document below and would like to hear your views and feedback on our proposals.

To ensure we accurately capture your views we request that any correspondence is emailed to ne-ifca@eastriding.gov.ukor posted to the Authority’s Bridlington address. 

This informal consultation will run from 18 January 2016 to 1 April 2016

A number of ‘surgery’ consultation meeting dates have been announced to give you the opportunity to discuss fisheries management proposals directly with the Authority’s officers.

If you wish to attend one of the meetings you MUST contact the Authority’s main Bridlington Office on:

Sessions will begin at 9.30am and close at 6pm.

New Management Provisions 

The following new shellfish management provisions which are now in force throughout the NEIFCA district:

New minimum size for edible crab of 140mm as of 1 January 2016

Mandatory requirement that all pots carry (80 x 46 mm) escape gaps (one in each individual pot chamber) (with an expectation that all pots will be compliant by 1st June 2016)

Maximum overall vessel size inside 3 nautical miles - 14m North of the Tees, 12.5m South of the Tees as of 1 January 2016.
